michigan u.p. black bear, 640# dressed

call bs all u want, the tv show Discovering, the Michigan Woods and Water magazine, Michigan conservation officers facebook page, and Michigan outdoors writer Richard p Smith are all liars.

Cheeser,

You should watch the video that you posted. The guy in the video states that he weighs “614 pounds” while it’s laying on a scale...ungutted. That would be the live weight. Not 640-650 dressed, and certainly not “around 730 pounds live weight.”

I stand by my statement...it’s “B.S.”

It looks like a real nice bear, but not close to 730 pounds. From what I see I don’t think it weighs 614 pound live weight either. Still, it’s a very nice bear!

Cheeser,

No disrespect to you intended in the least. My apologies if you took it that way.

But bears that big in MI just don’t seem to exist. By that I mean a bear over 700 pounds. And looking at the pic and then the video it didn’t appear to me that the bear was big enough to be over 700 pounds.

As I said before-it’s still a bear of a lifetime! Congrats to the hunter.

Happy Hunting!

Regarding the pic of the 2nd huge bear you posted...Geez! Look at the head on that thing!

New Jersey had an 829 lb monster harvested a few years ago, and routinely a number of other extra large bears 500, 600, 700 lbs. Big ones are not uncommon here. If they can get that big in this socialist utopia, why not MI? Too bad our liberal governor banned bear hunting on State Lands last year. Once that is reversed, if any of you want to come here and go after big bears just let me know, I will draw you a map. See more bears than deer some days. They have overrun so many areas. I think it cost like $2 bucks for a permit also.

PA had a big one too... It was also a New Jersey bear that swam across the Delaware River.

Colorado has had some bear bears killed over the years but generally aren't very big. What we do have is a lot of color phase bears which is kind of cool.

Wow! 879lbs would get the adrenaline flowing.
