Losing western culture in global commercialism.

Or drywall returns at the windows?

Don't get me started on the people who name subdivisions.........

I frequently think of the saying that "developers usually name subdivisions after what they are about to destroy......"

Or models of home, average (mode) price of a house in the area is like $350k and these shit boxes are all anyone has built for 2 years

Since the thread is well derailed at this point......

I'm a residential remodeler, mostly, who just occasionally dabbles in new construction. I'm quite jaded with building trends. I don't know if this stuff starts in the home improvement TV world or what. I get asked sometimes, "what do you think of this, or that," and it's hard to know what to tell people, because the things that I think are noteworthy are so different than what they see.

For me personally, I like an efficient floorplan, low maintenance, good energy efficiency, and color and design choices that will be relevant for a long time. So when someone wants to know what I think of their "inspirations" they saw on Instagram, it's a little hard to know what to say, as some of those do put money in my pocket, but honestly I find them a bit repugnant.

It's a little like being at a social function, and some guy finds out you hunt, and next thing you hear is "let me tell you about my Gunwerks rifle. 1,000 yards, bro, right out of the box......."

Sorry I was referring to our generation
Not butt hurt, just responding with a little more edge than normal. Beer #2 working magic.
Everything smoothing out nicely.

and our weird tastes in homes

My 1908-Pennsylvania-born grandfather drank Lucky Lager, Hamm's and Miller High Life, The Champagne of Beers. My 1935-born father drank Olympia (Oh-Lee) and sometimes Rainer Ale and Mickey Big Mouth.

I don't drink beer much but when I do it's Miller Genuine Draft from an ice-cold can or a bar beer tap into a frosty crystal mug with pizza or Mexican food.

Americans found themselves on a continent with virtually untapped natural resources compared to the rest know world at time. We were set up with hand that basically you couldn’t you loose with. And we didn’t.
Then create an industrial driven political system that understood that propaganda of American exceptionalism was uber profitable. And hence you have posts thats illustrates how successful
that 100 years of that propaganda really was.
Well the decks been reshuffled a few time since then. We can either wake up and look around at the world today or bury our heads and drown in the
sands of the propaganda of a grandiose time that doesn't exist anymore.

"Somebody" chose to deviate from the Classic American Dream that the post-War Fabulous 1950's was the heart of. There is always some bad apple that comes along that had to spoil an otherwise perfect barrel. What killed off the once-magnificent Roman Empire? Followers of some ancient besandled hippie named Jesus Christ and some barbaric Germanic armies from northern Europe? Why are people never satisfied enough to leave well enough alone?

Sad beige werner herzog is the best thing on the internet right now.

And as for me, pass the Glocks, Tikkas, and Toyotas. Also Johnson outboards were crap.

The whole point of this thread is I'm demoralized as an American. You know what I mean. Press 1 for English on the telephone.

I prefer a COLT pistol over an H&K one because COLT rings American in my ears. SAVAGE has more charm to me than CZ. BROWNING has more charm to me than YILDIZ.
I could go on and on.
I mean really it’s that easy🤷🏻‍♂️
Don’t know why I keep opening up and looking for the train wreck 🤦🏼

I suppose Mercury is a decent outboard. I have a Smith & Wesson SD9VE instead of a Glock. I had a 25 horse tiller Johnson on a 2000 14.50' Lowe I once bought new. Started reliably but mechanically ran a bit rough. The dealer said two-cylinder two-strokes were not expected to be smooth and quiet. The pickup was rather poor on this motor, so yes. I would have to say Honda outboards are superior. Whether Mercury is as good, I don't know, but the prestigious Boston Whaler coastal boats used to have Merc outboards as stock equipment.

Aww when men where men, women knew their place and there was always a seat on the front of the bus(at least for you and me). Truly the good old days!
