Lite Weight Rifle ?

Well I went shopping today, looked at pretty much all the lightweight Rifles the local gun Shops had in stock.
decided to stop at our relatively new Field & Stream store on my way home, they had a couple of Tikka T3 lites, one in 30-06 and that is really what I wanted.
with a sale price of $499.99 I couldn't pass it up, got the Rifle and a Leupold VX2 3-9x40 with the long range reticle.
put it all together with the sling and everything, tips the scale at 7.39 Pounds, a full 2 pounds lighter than my Remington model 700.
I think that I will be happy with it.

That's the exact gun I have. Do yourself a favor and go ahead and buy a limbsaver recoil pad. They are on Amazon for around $26. I used to develop a flinch after sighting in the rifle as well as a decent bruise on my shoulder from the significant recoil but after putting that pad on I was able to shoot 40rds at the range this last weekend and barely felt it and not a mark on the shoulder. I was skeptical until I tried it but I was really impressed.

I have almost the same setup as he does on my 7mag, and the limbsaver is really a needed asset. The stock recoil pads on these rifles is probably the only weak point on them... even my .260(which i haven't replaced) is rough compared to the 7mag.

do they shoot as good of groups as they advertise ?.

mine in 7MM Rem Mag shoots great. It doesn't like every factory load equally though. groups have ranged from .75 to 1.5 depending on the load. I settled on Federal Trophy Bonded Tips.

my 300WM recoil is very manageable. The muzzlebreak really helps, and I keep plugs nearby. In the heat of the moment, I rarely feel recoil as I am so focused on followup shot or maintaining awareness of my records.

Regarding accuracy, my T3 will put the shots in the same hole almost every time. I'm shooting Hornady Superformance SST 165gr. I agree that different loads shoot differently. I shot Remington CoreLok before and they would shoot a 1" group at 100yrds but continues to spread the farther out you go. The Hornady was drilling 6" targets at 600yrds dead center adjusting for the proper elevation.
