I'm sure on most of the late hunts I could find elk without ever leaving the seat of my truck. The rumor is many people road hunt. I saw multiple people road hunting during the general archery season in early
September.
I packed camp an hours walk from the road and for the most part never hunted within a mile of the road during the entire hunt. I glassed up elk that were close to roads and elk very far from roads during this hunt. Most of the bulls seemed to be in thick nasty canyons, with good grass and water. I killed my pull 2.7 miles from the road as the crow flies. I packed it on my back about a half mile and horses assisted on packing it out after that. The steep rocky hillsides and downfall timber would have made getting horses to the oak brush hole my bull died in a nightmare.
