KS res deer results

Hunting/Fishing Kansas Facebook pages state that the draw occurred Friday, with phone calls going out to the fortunate few starting this week. Alphabetically near the end, I'm certain my call will be one of the later phone calls made :sneaky:
I hope you draw!

@nhenry The recent reports for SW portions of your units are saying it is as good a late spring/early summer as many bird hunters have seen. High hopes for good hatches and plenty of pheasants/quail.

Do you have ideas North v South for your deer?

Lots of rain this year so far. I haven't seen that side of the state so green in a long, long time. Just about brings a tear to my eye.

I grew up in SWK around Garden City, so I was thinking about possibly going over there since I went to NWK last year. I've seen some massive muleys over there from time to time.

They must’ve lost my number.

KDWP updated priority points (bonus point for elk) today showing that I'm unsuccessful on elk. I'm up to 11 points for next years draw.

Still no email from them, which makes me feel like this isn't good customer service at all.

Poor customer service. Sorry you didn't get the tag this time around. Next year for sure.

I got my pronghorn preference point as well, though I knew I was unsuccessful on that.

OH MY STARS!!!

I’m sitting on my couch thinking I need to go do some yard work and my phone rings. Digging it out of my pocket, I see the caller ID says Pratt KS. I decided to answer even though I have resigned myself to not hunting Ft Riley this hunting season.

“kansasdad here”

“Hi Mark, this is Jason with Wildlife and Parks, and I might have some good news for you. I was wondering if you still wanted to go elk hunting this fall at Ft Riley?”

“I have already seen the unsuccessful status on my profile with my points updated”.

“Well, the good news for you is that you were the next one on the list that would have drawn, and someone who was successful has decided to not take their tag, so it’s yours if you want it”.

“Yes please, I will take the tag!”

Credit card info exchanged, and I’m expecting to see my KDWP app updated shortly WITH MY ELK TAG!

I will be heading to the Post for an elk adventure this fall after all!

My first phone call was to my praying mom. After telling her about my phone call from the big game tag specialist and his news, she remarked that she was so happy for me, and was so glad that her prayers were answered.

Indeed there have been some big ones harvested over the years. And some spindly antlered bulls as well.

My tag is antlerless for November.

Congrats, That’s exciting! my account still has not been updated. I’m assuming I didn’t draw anything.

Oh man. Big congrats. You hitting it the first day of the season?
No need for trick or treating so it would be possible to be ready to go 1 Nov. I would like to find her and invite her home with me before the upland bird hunters get rolling. There will already lots of archery deer hunters as well as the other few bull tag holders as well as October cow hunters to have schooled them up a bit.

Reading other tag holder accounts, a lot of success/failure can come down to area closures for army training, as well as the elk knowing where no human entry/refuge areas are to be found. And there are no barriers to the elk leaving the Post property.

Any idea where you’re planning to hunt? I’ve been up and down the west side of Kansas. Had an either species tag last year but killed a nice whitetail.
