Great story so far. I love that country, the geology is crazy amazing as is the ruggedness of it. I love reading stories of first time hunters for what ever species, their excitement is hard to contain.

Knew you were joking. I was lucky to get the regular updates and share similar thoughts/plans/challenges over the duration. It doesn't seem like it's been 5 months.

I was glad to know this could upheave somebody else's life in a similar way. No half-assery on this one.

Actually the Taco Bus has a better view and the beef taco lunch is fabulous.

I was on that ridge Saturday. Found there's trail next to a skateboard park that makes for quickest access. I did a loop. A HEM hunt it would not be, there.

So late August went in deep with a great friend. I have a handful of buddies that are 10-15 years younger...these guys push the pace.
Plan was to go in eight miles and hop in to a handful of basins to snoop around.

Chit ton of ewes sighted.
Band of ten younger rams.
And then...
100 yds beneath us.

We had the sun right behind our shoulders. They never saw us.

You know, I was stoked but I also was twitchy...this luck, this close to the season. Probably won't be repeated.
Darn, one ram out of 12 might have been a shooter, in a good location but 9 miles back. Given the location and a strong partner along I might have dumped one had it been the season.
But I now know where some better rams are hanging.

Think I took a weekend off and went to Georgetown Lake with the fam and drank beer.
