I will be bear hunting on the NC coast in December (OYO style). I have deer hunted that area for many years, and have seen tons of bear there, but you either see 10+ in one morning or none all week. I only have a few days to give it a try. One thing that I have recently heard about is predator calling bears. Has anyone on here tried that tactic? If so, is it effective? Would the fact that I will be hunting in a thick swamp make a difference in if it will work or not?

Not sure about calling but a last resort could be baiting them if you have seen a lot it shouldn't be hard to lure them in if its legal in nc

Well then I guess it couldn't hurt to try a call maybe rabbit in distress if nothing else you might get a coyote or bobcat which is always good I don't think it would scare them away

I called one in this spring to 30 yards with a rabbit distress. I'd try a rabbit or fawn distress. If possible try to sit at least 30 minutes. From what I've heard they can take a while to come in and you need to constantly call. When I called mine in I was calling for 30 seconds and then waiting a minute or two before calling again. She came in around 5-6 minutes. I think it was more out of curiosity than looking to kill something that was in distress. Good luck man. I'll be trying to call them into a fawn decoy in the spring.
