Iowa City, IA

No deer in Iowa.

I'm sure if he does his homework you'll be able to find places to hunt. I believe the City has controlled hunts. Just like everywhere else you got to do the ground work.

good luck to all
the dog

Some good hunting north of town around the Coralville reservoir from what I've heard. NR tags are pretty cashy these days for deer.

Check out the Iowa DNR website at link below. The habitat and access program is fairly new and would be worth checking out. The Iowa Sportsman Atlas is another good resource tool that lists all public ground by county, even the county owned ones.

Brother-in-law just took a job there. Any hunting if I get a chance to go visit?

good deer hunting around there if you can get on some good ground... took me 3 years to draw an archery tag. Saw a 170+ buck.

lots of turkey and some pheasant around too.

Archery hunted that area many moons ago. It was very good at the time.

The celebrities have changed hunting in Iowa considerably since then. Archery public is still pretty good. But NR gun tags are much easier to come by. Tags are over $500 but included a doe tag.

I moved from MN to Iowa last winter. I've hunted deer in Iowa on public land only, and only for a week. I hunted in MN for 5 years, and only on private land. I never saw as many deer or bucks in a single sit in 5 years in MN as I've seen in a few sits in Iowa.

Fun place. Good hunting and fishing too. There are deer everywhere and lots of birds. I guess pheasant numbers are the lowest they have been since theyy started surveying. I guess it must be the wolves.
