Inconsiderate hunting partner decided to hava heart attack 12 days before WY Lope

Obviously a poor attempt at humor. My dad had a heart attack this weekend. 62 years old. Pack a day smoker for the last 40 years unfortunately. From the time he was able to pull his thoughts together all he asked about is how we can make sure we make it to Wyoming in 12 days.

Got the blockage clear with a stint so hopefully we'll be good to go although I'm anticipating being largely truck bound while he builds his strength back.

Makes you consider what is important in life. Hopefully future hunting trips with his children and grandchildren has more value than a smoke.

All I can say is glad they got it cleared . Next thing I'll say is maybe he should stay home? Not what your wanting to hear in sure but like you said , for the sake of future trips with family made best to rest up and sit out this one. Any heart procedure is a big deal . With a doctor's clearance, an antelope hunt might be doable.

If I was in his shoes, I'd probably be just as comfortable and a whole lot happier in a truck than in a recliner at home. Glad it turned out well. Good luck.

If you can, even if it's less than what you had planned/anticipated, go on that hunt with him!! I lost my dad when he was 58 and the last hunt we did is a very cherished memory.

It is regular for thoughts, mood and energy level to go haywire after an MI. Most common mental health aftereffect is anxiety/depression. His Drs will be aware of this and offer referrals. The vast majority of people do treatment, cardio rehab, and substantially heal, all that takes months or longer. If he tells the Dr what he has in mind, he will get sound guidance. Good luck to you both.

I'm hoping my own (61) doesn't try to die on the mountain next month. He's twice my size, I'll never get him down. I asked him to leave some fingernail clippings behind so we've got something to bury. My own poor attempt at humor.

I'm 62, was never a smoker or drinker, always stayed in good shape but in the last 10 years or so have made diet and exercise even more of a daily routine than ever as I have come to realize without it the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with my kids would come to an end faster than I want it to or that it has to.

I totally forgot about this episode! He's definitely going to be watching it in his hospital bed.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and advice. He's scheduled to get out of the hospital today and then have a couple weeks of cardio therapy. I'm guessing the worst case scenario will that he'll be able to go but mostly confined to the truck. I know he would want to get out there regardless. We hunted this unit last year and as fate would have it dropped our Antelope within 500 yards the truck anyhow so I know it's doable
