Leupold BX-4 Rangefinding Binoculars

Idaho wolves

My buddy and I have been taking wolf hunting serious this year but havent found any yet just a few tracks.

Has anyone heard or seen any wolves in unit 58,59,59A,64 or 65?

Thanks!

Hunted the selway a couple years ago. Unit 17, saw wolves twice on a 10 day hunt. First time was on the airstrip. We flew in by Bush plane and after packing up the mules and saddling horses, we started leaving and a couple ran across the landing strip.

The second encounter was when we found a few elk. Gassing an old burn with only a couple trees standing, there were 6 cow elk hanging in the shade. We were watching from 1200 yards away. After watching for 15 mins or so they got up and ran over the top of the mountain. Out of the lower timber comes 6 wolves. They chased the elk off and took their shade. We weren't in position to stalk in for a shot and I wasn't equipped then for a 1200 yard shot! The selway is a lot more intense terrain than some of the units in the state. Good luck! They need some serious wolf management to happen in the northern part of the state so I'm sure the south is just as bad.

I'd find smaller herds of elk and just wait patiently. The wolves will be near if there's any around. Or talk to ranchers. They know whose being bothered by the wolves.

I'm headed up into 51 and 37a at the end of January. The snow is what's stopping me now. Like said above. Find the elk find the wolves.
