Hey guys, I had a chain pop off and in putting it back together it appears some metal piece broke.
If anyone has input on what the hell happened and if it's still operable, that would be great. I got a s*** ton of cutting to do today. I'm going to be really bummed if this knocks it out of action or if it's something I can get by.

Top right, metal piece is snapped. Not sure what it's for. It appears as though maybe when the chain popped off it grabbed on to that piece of metal and yanked it back bending it to the point where when I was taking off the cover it just easily snapped off.

Actually, you don't need to tell me whether it's operable or not just tell me it's function. I'll make that decision whether to use or not. I don't want anyone to feel to say it's not operable as a CYA.

I believe that is just a guide for the chain as it comes around and back in the housing, but my old husky looked a lot different than that one. You should be fine to run it.

It’s a chain catch for when the chain slips off. Keeps the chain from getting balled up around the clutch. The chainsaw will function without it but pay attention to the chains tension always. Your local shop should have a replacement.

Have you looked up the part on a parts diagram for your saw model? That would be my first attempt at finding what that part does. Sorry I can't be of more help. What model saw is the one in questions so others with more knowledge can help you.

@azelkhntr is correct, it is a chain catch there for safety purposes. Saw will run fine without it. Get a new one next time you are at a shop. Always check the tension on your chain.

Usually I check to ensure I'm able to pull the chain up slightly. Goal not too tight, not too loose. I'm chopping tops off my 6-7" round posts. Horizontal chainsaw angled cuts and I probably pinched the bar...
