Hunting burn areas

Hello Fellow Hunters,

Last year, one of my favorite hunting areas in Utah caught on fire due to lightning. It burned a few thousand acres. I hear Randy Newberg and other hunters say they love to hunt burn areas. At what point after a fire do you guys start hunting burn areas? The following year or do you wait a couple years after the fire to start hunting the burn area? Do elk tend to like burn areas more than deer or is it about the same?
Thanks for your advice.

Be interested to hear what others say. I am going to say as soon as lush green stuff starts growing but I am no burn area expert. was in burn that was 4 years old this weekend that holds a lot of elk. Hard to imagine it not holding elk and deer as soon as desirable food is present, even if it is only 3 inches tall?

A follow on question is "do animals feel and act as uf they are more concealed than actual in a burn area with standing timber? Elk this weekend sure seemed like they felt more security/concealment as they watched me than if they were on a normal open hillside.

I believe Khunter is right. The animals will move back in as soon as the forage is there. I've hunted burns, or the edges of burns, with good success as soon as 3 months after the burn
