MT Hunt Right Video

Our FWP Region 3 Citizens Advisory Committee has been producing this Hunt Right campaign and just put out this video. Mike England (Outside Bozeman), one of our committee members, sent this out yesterday.

I think it is a very well produced video with a great message.

I also think it is a good video. The problem is that the people that need to watch it will never see it.

PC hunting?
If you don't know, this is in response to several ugly incidents where herds of elk were driven onto public land where they met firing lines. The video beats around the bush a little imo (buried in there is fair chase), but the committee is faced with the difficult task of telling hunters not to act like slobs without making hunters look like they need to be told not to act like slobs. It's a start, hopefully it works.

I think putting a blunter message in 12 packs of beer might be better. ;)

I should add that it is really impressive that the committee pulled off this video/campaign in a relatively short amount of time. I hope it makes a difference.

Nice thought. Gives the warm & fuzzies.

FWP is more delusional than I thought if they think it'll make a bit of difference this fall when a couple 'hunnerd head get out in the open....

especially during the shoulder season.... they set themselves up for failure with these open seasons on cow elk.

I remember reading a few of those threads, last year was it? I'm not here very often anymore.

Now you say several, but the video says a "few". I wonder what generation the "hunters" were in relation to their MT roots....

You're never going to convince unethical people to be different, no matter what the subject. IMO you're not going to change some folks perception of hunting no matter how much you clean it up either.

The production quality of the video was top notch though.

Yeah it made some big headlines last year, but it happens most years to be truthful. It also happened at the Grand Teton elk cull in Wyoming.

I'm just glad they got some sick product placement in there. You know you can tell how ethical a hunter is by their brand loyalty.

Someone has to pay the bills. When the guys that are sponsored in part by Sitka let FWP use their footage, you'd expect to see the clothes they wear be Sitka. Same goes for any other company that allows them to use footage.

Yep. I know a commercial when I see it.

I'm guessing this is supposed to be a public service announcement but it feels more like an ad. Where it went overboard for me was the close up cruise by of the Sitka logo. Maybe they have some bills to pay?

What do you think the great unwashed masses that I'm guessing this video is supposed to target will think of this beautiful piece of cinema?

I just watched it again with the sound off. And boy howdy it could have been an ad on an outdoor channel. Don't get me wrong I agree with the message and intent but don't you think it may be a little better accepted if that kind of stuff (blatant product placement) was toned down? Think of the blue jean carhartt brigades reaction...

I literally lol'ed when I saw the dude beast mode it in a full run over the log with no sound on just now. It was like Braveheart.

This independent project was conceived by the Region 3 CAC, not FWP. Those volunteers collected contributions and solicited sponsors for items, and such. FWP endorses it and contributed a wee bit to it, but it is independent.

I was at the Region CAC meetings, mentioned the project to someone previously with FWP, they said there were problems, that it had to be independent, so I was referred to some in Helena FWP who made sure Region 3 got things straightened out so that it was truly independent. I didnt want anything to bite either party in the ass down the road, there are enough of those problems in FWP. ;)

I dont know who produced the video, but if I remember correctly there was a suggestion about checking with a film student at MSU.

As I said before I agree with the intent but I disagree with the execution.

I didn't see it as a commercial... but the real measure should be "does it get the message across?" I think it grabs your attention enough to stick in your mind and maybe get you to investigate further. It is one of several things they are doing.

I sat in on one of the CAC meetings and what I saw was about a dozen volunteers. They were just a group of hunters and fishermen that were given a task they didn't ask for when they signed up for the CAC. They didn't know how they were going to do it, or how they were going to pay for it. They knew it would be a very difficult problem to get hunters not to act like slobs without giving the impression that hunters are so stupid they need to be told how not to act like slobs...

So somehow in the last few months they scraped up the funds and expertise to put this together. If you give a large enough contribution at their donation site they'd probably film you running around in your whitey-tighties or the apparel of your choice. ;) They also have a Facebook page.

Moonwater Media is credited with publishing it.

I watched the video without sound and was very impressed. Wasn't looking for brand presentation. and didn't see it. I sure it was there, but if you were not looking for it; you would not see it.

Again, I was thought the video was productive and gave a good message!
