HOW TO CALL THE POLICE

George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going
up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the
light on in the garden shed, which she could see
from the bedroom window. George opened the back door
to go turn off the light but saw that there were
people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in
your house?" and he said no. Then they said that all
patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock
his door and an officer would be along when
available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to
30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago
because there were people in my shed. Well, you
don't have to worry about them now cause I've just
shot them all." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police car , an Armed
Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the
Phillips residence. Of course, the police caught the
burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought
you said that you'd shot them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody
available!"

Thats funny! But in reality, we have had many people do that just to get a faster response time. When I finish taking their theft report, I tell them to turn around and cuff up. Then I take them to jail for 911 abuse!! :D

Wow that's a real neat story tuffbucker. You must be the coolest cop on the force. I wanna be just like you when I grow up.

Im not saying that in this kind of a situation I would arrest the caller, but I have had calls where the person has tried to make a situation a higher priority emergency, by making things up....such as a gun being involved, etc....in those cases, where an emergeny response by officers was not needed, and the person blatently admitts that they made the stuff up just to get us there faster, then you better believe they are going to get arrested.

For example, we had a guy call us a few years ago because his neighbor had the car radio up too loud. Unfortunately, not the top priority, when you have Domestic Violence in progress, etc. going on. Well, the guy wasn;t happy we werent running lights and sirens to his disturbance call, so he called again and said that there was an 8 month old infant locked in a car, and it didnt appear to be breathing. Obviously, when we and the fire department arrived on scene, and there was no baby, just a slightly loud radio, the dude went to jail.

Sorry, but if youre going to be dumb enough to make stuff up to get the police faster, your dumb enough to get arrested for it.

I don't know about your town...but in our town we have so many cops its ridiculous. We have a town of 3700 people, and 9 cops. They spend more time sitting in there cars side by side at the abandon gas station talking than doing anything else. After living here most of my life, if we need a quick response, my wife just tells them, you better get here quick or my husband is gonna take care of it. You can hear the tires squeal from the gas station...two blocks away.

Unfortunately, I work in a city where we are overworked and understaffed. We have approx. 80 officers in patrol.....split up between 4 shifts. The most we have on at a time is roughly 20-25.(If no one is off sick, vacation, holiday, etc.) Our city however is the second largest in Utah....with a couple hundred thousand people and the highest crime rates of anywhere else in the State.....We are extremely busy. Thats is why we arrest and prosecute people who call in fake emergencies. We have enough real ones going on, that we dont need people making up lies just to get us there faster.

I have many friends on the city and state police force here in N. Texas. I appreciate what they do and wouldn't want their job.
