Hey guys

Almost hate to ask this but here it goes. Last week my boss said "you need to burn an extra week of vacation before the end of the year." Can't argue with that but I don't want to sit at home and I already have my deer hunting dates off. So I looked at Wyoming antelope and see that units 23 and 24 have plenty of private land tags left. Problem: I have no private land to hunt. I would be more than satisfied to just shoot a doe or two. Just looking for a place to go. Does anyone know a place that offers a trespass fee type deal? If so, would you mind shooting me a Pm

I've looked online and on the Wyoming website. No luck.

If this is not an appropriate place to ask this please feel free to delete.

Thanks

I don't have anything to offer except, did you look at the landowner section of the WY G&F site? I know in the past Farmer Bill would say he had a herd of 'Lopes, in his pivot's he wanted taken care off. Forget where to look, but the info was all on the website, also doe tags are OTC if I remember right...

Thanks guys. I looked at the link above but saw nothing for units 23 and 24. These were the only units I saw that had leftover tags available. Unless I don't know what I'm looking at. Entirely possible.

"Here within lays the problem". Yep, lots of "private tags" in those areas that the state of Wyoming wants to sell. The issue is finding the "private" land to hunt on. Just because Wyoming wants to sell the "private land tags" doesn't mean that all the ranchers want people hunting their lands.

I hunt that area and "GOOD LUCK" finding a ranch to hunt. Most that allow hunting are already booked years ahead of time.

good luck to all

I agree with pointindogsrule, 24 has lots of private not much public and only 2 walkins 1 which the locals use as the local shooting range. Managed 1 but was lucky on the walkin I hunted.
Good luck!

Well hells bells. Thanks for all the replies guys. Guess a Wyoming lope hunt isn't going to happen this year. While I'm here....any ideas for a guy with a week off to hunt and a 2 kids in daycare budget??

You might want to try calling the local biologist and game warden for those units. Sometimes they know of folks that don't seek out hunters, but might be willing to take someone on short notice. This approach is what landed my hunting partner and I a sweet piece of private to hunt in 2015. Everyone on the list at the Fish and Wildlife office was booked up, but the first morning of our hunt the biologist called us with the name of a landowner willing to let us hunt for a small fee. What have you got to lose?

There are still type 6 leftovers in several units up in the northeast corner if you just wanted to buy a few doe tags. But for another trip idea, North Dakota is very reasonable on prices and early season goose and walleye fishing on Lake Sak is a good time.

I have a contact in Area 23 about halfway between Gillette and Wright if they're still doing it. They usually book up before now but you might get lucky with a cancellation.

PM me for the info.

Tarheel- thanks for the generous offer. My PM wouldn't go through. Says your mailbox or whatever is full.

You thought about a archery elk hunt? CO sells over the counter tags and plenty of public land to hunt. I realize it isn't antelope hunting but well worth the trip.
