Thanks for the extra pictures. That bolt screams Type 99 Arisaka to me. The lack of markings and the rear sights don’t however. There were training rifles made that I believe were single shot (not considered safe to fire btw).

What’s the approximate caliber? If it’s about .30 cal, my vote is for Arisaka training rifle. Murata if it’s larger (about 11mm)

After taking the information you gave me I did some investigating and the rear sight would reflect that of a type 38. The type 38 has a v notch rear with the flip up and a type 99 has a peep sight.

I wouldn't fire it for sure. When I picked it up to look into the chamber the bolt just fell out onto the floor.
