The newest version of hb159, amended today, gets rid of the repeal of 87-3-401(ban on use of rifles for upland birds and spring turkey). Some common sense prevails...I'm sure the determined and dogged opposition by some sportsmen:) helped this happen. Another "victory" in Helena. As a side bar....it's interesting how they can amend out a section of a proposed bill that the sponsor, Cary Smith, insisted did not exist. Anyways, good job to the guys who showed up for this one....stay on em tomorrow:hump:.

Many wrote about the dangers of rifles in turkey season. Turkey season results in the greatest number of accidents per participant. Everyone is camo'd and calling like turkeys, using decoys, etc.

Fortunately, most those accidents are not terminal, due to the use of shotguns at longer distances. It was easy to demonstrate what would happen if those accidents were with rifles.

That was an easier case to make than the upland issue, though the upland dangers was equally as worrisome.

Glad it is gone from the bill. Still not a necessary bill, but much better.
