H414 for 8mm Rem Mag

What bullet weight does he plan on using Tim? I've got some load data, but not a lot using H-414..

Tim, Looking in the Hodgdon#26 manual they only list H-414 for 150, 170-175gr bullets.I suppose they feel in this application it's a bit to fast for the heavier weights.

Here's what they list with H-414.......

150gr bullet,starting at 77.0grs and max is at 79.0grs

175gr bullet,starting at 72gr and max is 75.0grs

Looking at the heavier weights,185,200,220,225,250 grs they show H-4831 giving the highest velocites(for Hodgdon powders)

Hope this helps some AA

Tim, The problem with loading H414 in a case that size with a bullet that heavy is that the fine grain powder loads so tight that you loose load density when you have to reduce the volume for heavier bullets. I suggest that he think about using some of the lincoln log powders like IMR 4831 or one of the 4350s. I know they are a pain to measure, but the load density stays up and the accuracy is better held. I've always been partial to H-1000 for that particular combination.
