Gutted - lost meat

Did it take that long to get the smell out?
We had fridge with freezer go out in the garage while we were on vacation for a week in the Las Vegas summer. The freezer part was full of venison. Liquid was weeping out under the fridge door when we got back.
The smell was horrendous.
Hosed the fridge out several times, soaked with ammonia, soaked with lemon juice as suggested by someone, sprayed with bleach. Nothing really worked, there was always that faint smell of death 💀 so we finally took it to the dump.

I had a cat somehow manage to unplug my freeze a long time ago. Never did get the smell out of that freezer.

When I bought my first house an electrician friend came over to see the house. He saw that I had my freezer plugged into a GFI circuit and told me I was crazy and that I should never do that unless I like rotten meat. He then added a new circuit in my garage just for the freezer. When I had my new house built a couple of years ago, I was going to tell the electrician to do that here, but my contractor beat me to it and already had it in the plans.
