I’ve been searching for the right shotgun to add to my short barrel shotgun collection for easily 10 years. I have a form 1 870 Police, form 4 Tac-13, and finally a form 4 870 Special Field.
The Special Field had a shorter mag tube than a regular 870, so you can cut them to around 10” without having to go to something like a Serbu. Plus, their just a cool old school shotgun with a straight stock.
Mostly, I hadn’t found the right one because they tend to command a pretty high price, but this one popped up, was already modified and had been used a good amount. Some people might find cutting up a classic sacrilegious, it wasn’t some pristine example though.
So, I paid the tax to the ATF, and held @p_ham at gunpoint while he cut it up, fabricated a new end for the vent rib, and put the bead back on. Then, we sent the barrel to Steve at Rose Action Sports for choke threading, and back to Paul for bluing and trust engraving. I also forced him to cut the stock a little shorter and fit a recoil pad.
It came out way beyond my expectations, and I’m looking forward to getting out in the field with it. I’m hoping it’s a good combo with my Salvo.

Paul’s picture is better.
