I am ashamed to say that I laughed my ass off at this one. In short, a drunk guy got pulled over in The Land of 1_Pointer and was tazered (tazed?) for one reason or another. Upon tazering he shat himself mightily and was ushered off to jail. Well, apparently he had a .22 pistol in the back of his britches that they failed to catch because they didn't properly pat down the poo. So, when they checked on the prisoner later on, after his shower, they found a .22 in the cell with him.

Ah, the hilarities of life. ;)
EVANSVILLE - Evansville's police chief and the Vanderburgh County sheriff are trying to determine how an inmate got a gun into the Vanderburgh County Jail last week.

Sheriff's deputies found a 22 caliber gun in a holding cell late Friday night, along with a man who had been arrested hours earlier.

Initial internal investigations by Evansville police and the sheriff's department indicate the man's soiled pants may be the reason he wasn't searched thoroughly.

42-year-old Ronald Earl Smith is in the Vanderburgh County Jail after leading police on a drunken car chase that started at an Angel Mounds boat ramp Friday night.

Police say when S with resisted arrest, he was hit with a tazer. He defecated in his pants and the EPD took him into custody.

EPD Chief Brad Hill tells NEWS 25 what's supposed to happen when a suspect is arrested.

"The subject would be patted down before he is placed in a police car and handcuffed. At headquarters again, the typical procedure would be to search them again. We also have a wand for officers to use to search for metallic objects on them," says Chief Brad Hill.

Hill says his investigation is focusing what was done and not done in this case.

According the Evansville police affidavit, Smith was brought here to the Vanderburgh County Jail booking room. All of his belongings were logged and police say that among his belongings was a box of 22-caliber long rife ammunition.

But officers didn't find a gun. It was found hours later, after a shower and change of clothes. Corrections officers checked on Smith and they noticed he wasn't wearing the cast on his arm that he'd been wearing earlier.

They noticed that Mr. Smith had removed his cast and put it in the sink in the cell. And when they asked him about that, why he'd taken it off, they saw the weapon in the sink. The gun was still covered with fecal matter. We assume the gun was down the back of the man's pants and that's why it wasn't discovered and got into the facility," says Sheriff Brad Ellsworth.

Sheriff Ellsworth and Chief Hill suspect Smith's dirty pants may be the reason Smith wasn't searched as well as he should have been.

"Probably because of that reason, the search was not as thorough on the street in the booking lobby and the person was to get it up there," says Ellsworth.

Ellsworth says Smith's five charges don't include bringing the gun into the jail because they don't believe he meant to.

Ellsworth says he anticipates disciplinary action against the corrections officers in charge of dealing with Smith. Hill says he's waiting for results from the EPD internal investigation before discussing any disciplinary action.
