I am contemplating bringing my 2.5 Year old GSP with me on my Elk trip this fall. I am thinking about dropping him at a boarders/trainers for a week and a half while I chase Elk and deer in region 3. He hasn't had much exposure to wild birds as they are nonexistent where I live. I could drop him off on my way thru and after were done head back to pick him up and work him for a few days.

Has anyone done this or can recommend a boarder/trainer that will work him? I don't want him to just be kenneled up while we are chasing Elk. Thanks Tony

I am open to suggestions but am looking more at the i94/i90 corridor just for logistical reasons. I'm also thinking I may just end up brining sections of dog caging so I can leave him in the campground while we are out.

I've considered that last part, but the price of boarding is worth it to me not to have my dog "walk off" either on his own or with 2 legged help...

Not only that, but as much as I love dogs, they are a pain in the butt when you're trying to do other things. Board him. Few thing make me want to punch someone in the face more than people who leave their barking dogs in a public place all day.

Both of those reasons are why I don't want to leave him in the campground. I was thinking he will get some great exposure with the right border/kennel.

You could Check out www.bigskydogtraininginc.com Marty Golden is the owner(406-967-3044). 30 minutes east of Billings outside of Ballantine just south of I94 can see his building from the interstate. They do boarding and training. He is usually booked on the training but give him a call. He trained my chocolate and she is a machine.

In my opinion you'd be wise to board him rather than crate him in camp. That said, I wouldn't expect much training to take place in that short period of time. A bit of pre-season exposure can't hurt a single bit though.

I've contacted a couple of the suggested ones plus Seranoa kennels. My GSP has been thru formal training before so I am only looking for some exposure and exercise. I have him in pretty good shape right now and he is out every day on at least a run. Staying active is really what I am hoping to find. A bird or two is just a bonus!

I know there is a guy that I see at outdoor shows in Billings that has a Kennel that does labs and GSP's. I think he does training too.

Looked up the website. Here it is. Don't know anything about it other than he's at the shows.

I spoke with Lenard and he seems legit. He has quite the set up and sounds like a good fit. He has 600 acres to run them on and will shoot him some birds while he is there. Plus he has 2 acres fenced in with a pond for the dogs to run it.

Thanks for recommending him. I think my GSP is Montana bound. Now, it looks like I need to do for some South Malta mapping....;)

Don't worry, Hunts invited us all to there. There is enough room for Hank and Tye to run. Most of the hunters will still be down in Area 7 burns chaising the mule deer Big Fin talked about. Doubt they would travel that far north for a few pheasant.

I've actually been looking right off the 94 corridor. There is a lot of BMA fields just off the highway. Reading on some of the pheasant sites I think we will be ok in finding one or two for him to work.
