{"YERINGTON, NV - On August 7, Lyon County commissioners voted 5-0 in a resolution in support of better management of an existing multiple-use recreation facility at Wilson Canyon. For several months, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) had been under pressure by anti-access groups to close this popular camping site on the Walker River. The commissioners also asked for cooperating agency status pursuant to Council for Environmental Quality regulations.

Local pro-access interests lead by Chuck Worley and the Friends of Wilson Canyon (F0WC) had been offering solutions to the federal land agencies to solve soil erosion, vehicle trespass into the riverbed, and sound issues. The BlueRibbon Coalition had also been helping FOWC with current management strategies including hardening of campsites, railroad tie vehicle barriers, and possible implementation of the 96dBA sound limit for off-highway vehicles (OHVs).
Over 200 recreation and access interests crowded the Lyon County Commission Chamber on August 6 to testify that they want Wilson Canyon to remain open for public use. Chuck Worley and Don Amador were just a few of the access interests who testified at that meeting.
Chuck Worley, the chairperson for Friends of Wilson Canyon, said, “I’m glad to see that our local politicians listened to our common sense approach to problem solving rather than adopting the closure agenda of the anti-access advocates. We hope the BLM will listen to what the county commissioners have said.”
Don Amador, the western representative for the BlueRibbon Coalition, stated, “It appears that the pro-active management prescriptions learned elsewhere by the OHV community can now be used to better manage BLM and Forest Service areas in Nevada.” "}
