{"YERINGTON, NV - On August 7, Lyon County commissioners voted 5-0 in a resolution in support of better management of an existing multiple-use recreation facility at Wilson Canyon. For several months, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) had been under pressure by anti-access groups to close this popular camping site on the Walker River. The commissioners also asked for cooperating agency status pursuant to Council for Environmental Quality regulations.

Local pro-access interests lead by Chuck Worley and the Friends of Wilson Canyon (F0WC) had been offering solutions to the federal land agencies to solve soil erosion, vehicle trespass into the riverbed, and sound issues. The BlueRibbon Coalition had also been helping FOWC with current management strategies including hardening of campsites, railroad tie vehicle barriers, and possible implementation of the 96dBA sound limit for off-highway vehicles (OHVs).

Over 200 recreation and access interests crowded the Lyon County Commission Chamber on August 6 to testify that they want Wilson Canyon to remain open for public use. Chuck Worley and Don Amador were just a few of the access interests who testified at that meeting.

Chuck Worley, the chairperson for Friends of Wilson Canyon, said, “I’m glad to see that our local politicians listened to our common sense approach to problem solving rather than adopting the closure agenda of the anti-access advocates. We hope the BLM will listen to what the county commissioners have said.”

Don Amador, the western representative for the BlueRibbon Coalition, stated, “It appears that the pro-active management prescriptions learned elsewhere by the OHV community can now be used to better manage BLM and Forest Service areas in Nevada.” "}

["POCATELLO, IDAHO (June 26) -- The BlueRibbon Coalition applauded a House Resources Committee report released today that takes the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) to task for misrepresenting environmental issues. The report, 'Environment and Resources Realities,' dispels the LCV's fiction with facts and can be viewed on the committee website at http://resourcescommittee.house.gov .

"This report covers several important recreation access issues, and it's about time that someone set the record straight on the LCV's misrepresentation of environmental issues," says BlueRibbon Coalition Executive Director Clark Collins. "From public lands and Wilderness to snowmobiling in Yellowstone, this report points out many of the bogus arguments used by environmental extremists in their effort to limit recreational access."

Resources Committee Chairman, Richard Pombo, doesn't pull any punches in the Committee release announcing this report. Referring to the LCV's congressional scorecard Pombo says, "This onslaught of scare-tactics and radical propaganda is a disservice to the environment and a disservice to the American people. If these groups were interested in actual environmental advancement, they would join us in meaningful debate on the issues, not litter the nation with disingenuous political drivel."

"It's about time that our political representatives take the gloves off and tell the American public they are being misled by radical environmental groups," said Collins. "Our recreationists are working on the ground to protect our recreational resources while LCV member organizations are attempting to lock us out of our public lands. My helmet is off to Congressman Pombo for telling it like it is." "
