The 60 day drying period was up on my goat last week, but I was pretty busy with work. I finally got around to having it scored this evening.

My outfitter told me to expect it to shrink an inch or so, and he wasn't far off. We netted it at 54 2/8" when I shot it, and it "officially" scores 53 4/8". I put that in quotes because apparently there is a good chance it will be invited to panel scoring in April 2010, for official official scoring. Wonder how much more it will shrink in 17 months! Currently it would stand tied for 39th in B&C.

Doesn't really matter where it ends up. I'm still amazed and feeling fortunate for getting a chance at a critter like that. Good times....

Congrats Oak. That is way cool. It was cool to see how the actual horns in person. Just think if you would have let him grow up a little. ;)

Congrats Oak. That is def. something to be proud of, not just the score, but the overall accomplishment.

Congrat's Oak on a goat of a lifetime! Best part of your post......."Doesn't really matter where it ends up. I'm still amazed and feeling fortunate for getting a chance at a critter like that. Good times...." so true!

Good perspective Oak. Conmgrats on a unique accomplishment.

I want to see the horns in person. I'll send you my addie in a pm. Top <50 all-time...not too shabby. Congrats again Oak.

Congrats on great accomplishment!!! Makes me a little worried though how my lope is going to end up.

What are the parts that shrink, did you record that? Congratulations! Is it officially entered now that it is officially scored? Way to go, 39th is totally awesome!

shrinkage

Your Horns will continue to shrink some. B&C has a shrinkage variance formula. If it shrinks more that is allowed you will get the new score from the panel. If it is less you will get the score you just had done.

What part of this scoring period are we in now. How long till the next banquet and panel.

I believe it will only be panel scored if it is in the top 5 of this scoring period. I have heard of a few giants taken over on the BC side of our area. Whether the hunters enter them is yet to be seen.

Don't hang your mount above the fireplace ...... LOL

Thanks for the comments.

muskeg, the scoring period ends next December, with the panel in April 2010. My goat is currently tied for 1st in the scoring period with one other goat. I know of some other big goats killed that have not been entered yet, so who knows. Jack Reneau of B&C told me to expect it to be invited to panel.

I haven't decided whether I will have it panel scored if invited, as I would need to wait to have the mount done. I'm pretty sure he will be big, whether listed in the book or not. ;)

I would wait to see if you shoot a bigger one this year in Colorado before wasting time getting all excited about the Alaska goat...
