Well I finally got my mounts back. My taxidermist, the only one in Kodiak, isn't the fastest guy around, but he does a pretty good job. I'm happy with them, but let me know what you think.
This is what you see as you walk up the steps after coming in the front door.

The dall ram took the largest Stone sheep frame available. I knew he was heavy when I was packing him out those 22 miles, but thought I was just being a whimp... :D

My only complaint is that he didn't build up the nose more. This guy had a good sized Roman nose from smacking heads.

They look good to me, Ovis. Did Brow-tine do both of those? Did you have either one bleached, or are they as-is?

The sheep I shot had a pretty good sized lump on his nose as well, but I'm not sure I want the mount to look that way. I've still got a little time to decide, but I'm leaning towards no lump. What do you think?

Well I'm a little taller than Ovis and much better looking. Anyway, neither one was bleached. I was lucky with the sheep and hit him in the head (after grazing off his horn). There was some blood but there was also a little spring about 200 yards away. I also washed it out that evening back at camp. The goat blood just brushes out, but he didn't have much blood on him either, no exit wound.
I'd go with the lump, it basically shows that the ram was a mature breeder. I heard they get that from smashing heads during the rut. Not the little thumps they do all year, but the serious "I'm going to kill you" head banging they do when the ladies are interested.
Then again you shot one of those short faced Chugach rams not an old horse nosed Alaska range ram... :D

I'm a dumbass, that's all. Thanks for the info, TB. Who did your mounts?

Edit: After re-reading your first post, I see you had them done by Eric at Kodiak Taxidermy.

I like them both.Hope you got something other than a white haired animal on the wall for contrast.

They look great TB, I espcially like the goat. I think what I like most is that he isn't bleach white, he still has some of the yellowish/dirty look that they have, looks awesome.

Oak, I know I'd try to get that lump duplicated if that great ram was mine.

Oak, you might be a dumbass, but TB is a much bigger one if he thinks he is better looking than me. Only person I can think of better looking than me on this board is Jose. And yes, Rich from Browtine has my ram...I'll probably get him back after I return from the desert. Lastly...go with the Roman Nose. Why would you not want to?

TB

From where I sit both the ram and the goat look good. Unless I have a flashlight and am up close I can't say for sure on the detail. The hairline around the base of the horns on the sheep looks like it could be fluffed up more to cover (what appears to me) up the final ring. I could be wrong, but check that out. I'm a big fan of the teeth...none of my dall's will not have them in. Only other thing I can think of to make them look better is to paint your white wall...make them stand out. Hey, is that a gash in the ram's inside, left horn?

Yeah, I'll be painting that wall sometime this summer. The gash is there, because I didn't check the zero on my rifle after taking a couple tumbles on the trip in. The bullet put a groove in the horn then went under the base of that horn, splitting his ear on the way, and lodged under the base of the right horn. Lucky for me, when it grazed the horn the bullet fragmented and 3 small shrapnel pieces went into his brain right around his eye. Eric said he could fill the groove, but I left it there as a small reminder to always check the zero after smacking the scope. When I got back I checked the rifle at the range and it was a 10" high and 8" to the left at 100 yards. ;)

beautiful mounts TB I sure like that Goat! My co-worker and young kid drew a Goat tag down there,Im gonna show him your goat and get him fired up,man thats a purdy mount.

Nice mounts and good after shot pic of the sheep and a great pic of Oak's sheep too. Those are on my wish list of big game, hopefully I'll get one before I'm done with life on this planet.

Wicked...well, he turned out good. You going again this year?

Not going for sheep this year. If I lived on the mainland and could do some scouting I'd probably go every year. Being out here its easier to wait for a draw hunt though.
I did draw another goat tag in the same area I shot that billy, but I'm also considering going on a moose & bou hunt with some friends. If I do the moose trip I might not have much time to do the goat hunt, but we'll see. I know some guys that drew the same goat area and they are taking a boat over in late September. I'm invited to go with them, but doubt work would allow me that much time off in September. Kinda why I posted that "Rank em" thread, just to see what others would do.
The moose area they are going to one of the guys hunted with another friend 3 years ago. They both took low 60" bulls and saw 2 more legal bulls (50" area) also saw a few nice bou.
Then again, That billy is 1.5" from making all-time book and I know that area could easily hold bigger ones. I could hike in the 14 miles in late August, but the cape would be pretty thin. If I went it'd probably be solo, so to be able to pack it out I'd probably just leave the cape anyway. Another friend of mine drew the roadsystem and this would be his 4th or 5th goat so if I needed a cape I could get one from him.
And then there's blacktails....

You can moose hunt when your fat and out of shape. Do the goat hunt while you can. At least that is my rationale. I did one moose hunt when I lived there. Floated the Koyukuk and seen two cows. I don't think I was cracked up for moose.

Looking forward to getting back from the desert and heading up to Kodiak in late Sept. Will fly in for goat one week, then get picked up from that and relocated to Old Harbor for a week of Sitkas. Will be my first trip to the rock.
