Cold Keeps Fla. Citrus Growers on Edge
(AP) - Citrus growers kept a close eye on Florida's $9 billion-a-year crop as a cold snap shattered record lows as far south as Miami Beach. Though the mercury dipped as low as 15 in Panama City Beach and 19 in Jacksonville on Friday, citrus growers said temperatures in the prime growing region farther south did not fall below 28 for more than four hours, the threshold for damage. "We flirted with it. We stepped to the edge, but we're fine," said grower Dan Richey of Vero Beach, which recorded a relatively safe low of 31

Hey that is good news Russ

Yeah, one cold snap in FL constitutes that global climate change is happening.

What about the 30% increase, in the last 20 years, in river/stream runoff in Siberia from the melting of glaciers? I guess if they can get a weekend long cold snap that'll prove that there is no global warming.

You guy's are really funny!!!

I mean really!!! I have seen more on the learning channel that would be more believable about the planet warming up a bit then the global warming fiasco...
I have stated this before, what about the times the over all climate has been far worse than it was now, and supposedly we were still hanging out of trees during these heat fazes.....What about those????

Washington Hunter, 1-pointer, dont waste your time, the world really is flat, about as flat as a few peoples heads on this forum.

That proves it for me! There's no doubt the global warming scare is nothing but more BS from those darn ol' environmentalists. What more evidence could you want than a two day January cold snap in Florida!?

Meanwhile it was fifty degrees today in Boise, a record high in some parts of Idaho, and forty five degrees in parts of Montana. Does that prove anything?

Yes, the climate has both been warmer/drier and colder/wetter in the past than it is now. That is inevitable. But, the thing that has over 98% of the worlds global climate scientists worried is the rate at which it is now warming.

And yes, in a warmer period we were still monkeys!!!

Don't usually post on this forom, BUT here in N.Z being closet to the declining ozone layer over Antartica we have had a lot of changes in our climate in the last 20 years.
Our Glaciers have receded at an astramonical rate, we no longer have a 4 season year, its as possible to have 70.F days in winter and snow in Summer, the native Vegetation in the mountains is changing with cold climate plants dieing out and more temperate plants moving farther and farther south, We now have 12 minute Sun Burn warnings between 10.00am and 4.00pm, Melanoma Cancer is at an alltime high both in New Zealand and Australia, Beach Sand Dunes are progressivley being swamped and washed away causing erosion to sea frontages,
Guys and Gals its real and its here now, did anyone read the National Geographic issue relating to the gas house effects and what Countrys are causing the greatest problems particually with Industry and vehicle exhaust fumes,????

To bad some that think they have all the answers, only have the foresight to be able to call names, especially when things are put up that show the opposite of what they preach, tout, and spout!!!

According to science, we have been in a number of "Global warmings", what was the excuse for the warmings the other times, man wasn't around then to the extend we are now, and according to the same scientists, it was far worse at times than it is now, by a long shot!!!!

Elkchsr, did you make all these discoveries from watching the learning channel?

I see, you watch one TV program and you're now an expert on global warming.

I think you should just consult all the scientists who study global warming and set them straight, or better yet just buy them a tv.

Volcanic activity triggered the last ice age. Geologic uplifting that created the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mtns led to a much warmer, drier environment in the Intermountain West. The thing you aren't seeing is that these previous changes occurred over VERY, VERY, LONG time scales. Change is still occurring, but we are speeding it up, THAT IS THE PROBLEM. Not so much that it is occuring, but the speed at which human activity is facilitating it.

Granted this isn't the Learning Channel, but this site is a good review of Global Climate Change

HAHAHAHA!!!Buzz!!!As usuall, you are a riot...LMAO!!!
What is the difference on where the info comes from, one scientists ideals and how they get and transmit them anen't much different then others..Been watching the debate on both sides on the same channels...LOL...you can justify any thing you want in your own mind. I will take the facts that I see and do the same thing...HAHAHAHA!!!

I will look it up Tyler and make my own judgement...Thanks..

Elkchsr, not that I'm a brilliant scientist like these other fellas or anything, but i have one thought about the heat while we were monkeys. Back then we didn't try to compensate by turning down the thermostat. By casual amateur observation, it would seem that we will compound whatever problem there already is by trying to negate it. More heat means more air conditioning means more electricity means more fuel means...you get the point. Just something to consider.

Yes! While I agree to a point, I have been over a fairly large chunk of this planet and it is kinda vain to think that we can have the size of effect that some put out as we have. It has also been stated that one puff of a volcano puts out more ozone depleting material in the atmosphere than all of man puts out in a year...So, with that study, it is hard to imagine that turning down ones appliance, on no matter what the scale we all do will make much of a difference...

THere is one common indicator that I haven't seen mentioned. The mean high tide level of all oceans around the world has come up 4 inches in the last 30 years. That's a lot...
