Along with the great tips given here, watch ALL of Randy's videos on Elk Hunting and Elk Tips. There is some really great information in there and you can learn a lot of tactics, scouting plans, and what gear you need for your hunt. I'm going on my 3rd elk hunt this year, so I would still consider myself new to this game. I have learned a lot just by watching Randy's videos. I will also be taking away some info from ElkNut's comments above.

Excellent information. I have hunted elk for 45 years and found that very informative. Thank you. I will share my dad's philosophy on elk, and he was an avid hunter. The elk are where you find them.... We have spent days in beautiful remote elk country and seen them 50 yards from the road in a low sagebrush flat on the way home. Do the best you can. They will either be there or not, often no matter what you do it seems. The main thing is to have fun and enjoy the experience. That is always a success. Good luck!
