Is there any consensus on who makes the better game bags for packing a boned out mule deer on one's back? I'm tired of the cheap, weak bags that I have bought from Cabelas over the years.

I have been using the Ovis Sacks the last couple years. Been used on three animals with bone in and no signs of wear yet.

Caribou game bags. I used them last year on my mule deer and won't look back. They have different sizes so be sure to get the size for the animal you are hunting.

Caribou, tag bags, the ones from Black ovis..they are all good.

I can only speak to the Caribou brand bags and the Black Ovis brand bags as those are the two that I've used. Both are very durable and have the reflective strips which does make it nicer finding them in the dark. Both breath well and wash up very easily.

It might seem steep to pay $50+ for some game bags but unlike the cheap ones, the good ones are going to last many, many years. I really couldn't notice much difference between the Black Ovis bags and the Caribou brand bags. Maybe if I set them side by side I might notice something different but they are both really good.

Black ovis gets my vote as well and they are usually on sale on Camofire .

Another vote for caribou... this set has seen 2 elk, 1 muley, and a caribou... although you can fit an entire caribou into one caribou bag from a caribou game bag set... if you fallow.

Couple questions:
-Are the posted weights for all the bags that are included? i.e., each bag isn't like 1.2 lbs. right?
-Have you guys hung them? Say a guy was to fill one up with 80-100# of boned out elk are the draw strings or loops sturdy enough to hang?
Thanks!

Very happy with the TAG B.O.M.B. bags the past several seasons, bought a few Kuiu large/bone-in bags to try this season as well. Thinking i can probably get a whole boned out antelope in one of those (can get a boned out antelope in to of the TAG bags pretty easily).

I'm not sure about the actual weight of the bags. But they weigh about as much as a pillow case of the same size.
I hung them with cow elk quarters; the heaviest being a hind quarter of course. No problems there but I imagine a hind bull is something entirely different.

The Black Ovis lite weight elk bags come in a set of five; four quarters and an extra for back strap etc. All were ample size for my cow. I could probably have fit a front and back quarter into one bag if I needed to.

Yeah that seems about right for the weight of a set. The bags are sturdy enough to hold 100lbs of meat, but no the loops/ draw string alone probably wouldn’t hold. I cinch them up wrap paracord around the top 3 inch’s of the fabric using the cinched cord as a knot to keep the cord from slipping and hang them that way. I would say the bags we did this with had +\- 65 lb in them and you could have easily added more weight. An elk hind quarter will fit in a bag boned out but won’t bone in on the caribou size bags...too wide.

I use black Ovis and they have been good to me. You can get them on camofire on sell. The deer bags are I believe $39.99 and the elk are $49.99. Comes with 4 quarter bags and 1 scrap meat bag.

Thanks goatshoes and wllm, I was wondering about girth hitching a knot as you note. Better yet to skip the knot.
