Found in South east New Mexico. I noticed the pattern and can’t tell if these or floral inprints or actual plant fibers that fossilized. Any ideas on what this could be? Ancient dung or something cooler?
I'm not a paleontologist or a geologist so take this with a major grain of salt but I think you're looking at just a rock with some interesting bedding/layers that was shaped by water (rounded)
doesn't look like fossils to me. almost looks like a sedimentary rock that preserved some liquifaction prior to cementation.
i dunno. the more i look the more my mind goes back and forth. that could definitely be some cemented up crinoids that rounded up in transport. such coarse grains in there though. you'd usually find fossils like that deposited in still, muddy environments. again, HCl would help.
