I was on a hunting forum trying to get information on a DIY coues deer hunt and wouldn't you know it I won a fully-guided hunt with AAA Outdoors for this very animal. It was absolutely unbelievable. GOD had truly blessed me!

It looks like I'll be hunting down there November 8 through the 12. In one of the southern border zones. I usually shoot a .30-06 TC Prohunter with 180gr. Federal Premium bullets but have decided to take my .270 Remington ADL shooting Hornady SST in 140gr. I can't put my bypod on the TC and figure I may have to make a farther shot down there. Interested in seeing some of the coues deer hunters have harvested on here and any advise I could get. Thank you and Good Huntin'

Optics are the key to hunting these little deer. The better your optics the better your chances of finding them. A good walking stick to use for standing and glassing and lots of practice shooting at extended ranges upto about 500 yards. A big Couse deet will weigh about 125 pounds and be just slightly larger than your neighbors German Shepard. So understanding that can go a long way to finding them. Getting close enough to shoot one is a different manner. They live in brushy country and can be difficult to sneak up on so be prepared for long shots. If you get closer, so much the better. Good job! What danr55 said. Get in shape as everything there is tough hiking. Wear leather boots, as the pointy stuff will stick through nylon like it was not even there. Having a guide for your first hunt is going to really be nice.

What a great lil deer to chase...I've been fortunate to kill two now with my bow and you'll have a blast...

I've been hitting the range, mountains, and have quality glass. I thought about bringing my lighter nylon boots but will chose my leather Meindl boots instead. Thank you all for your input!
