".........Don't be misled here. Snowmobiling advocates will say the new generation of machines are cleaner and quieter. But the Park Service is still hedging the plan as an experiment. "(This provides) the opportunity to gather additional, real-time data to be used preparing permanent regulations for winter use in the parks."

The Park Service's mission is to defend sacred and environmentally sensitive places such as Yellowstone, not use them as science labs. If snowmobile manufacturers have really designed a better snow machine, let them make their case in the abundant U.S. Forest Service land surrounding Yellowstone. In time, snowmobilers just might find they can have a great winter recreation experience in the forests surrounding small Idaho towns such as Island Park and Ashton, and outfitters just might find they can do a brisk business on the outskirts of the park........"

Action Alert: BRC Land Use Update
Date: August 19, 2004

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Dear Subscriber,

"First of all, I want to express our sincere thanks to BRC members who responded to our ACTION ALERT yesterday. The emails are flooding into the Park Service and I just wanted to say thanks. Everyone at BRC appreciates your membership and involvement.

We've got a couple of land use updates I wanted you to know about. Issues will be heating up in the next few weeks. There are several opportunities for public comment to move a couple of travel plans in a positive direction.

I know that it can seem like all this public comment stuff doesn't do anything for OHV access. Let me assure you, trails will be saved largely because the OHV public is involved in planning. It's happening all across the Nation. OHV users are tired of closures and they are getting involved in increasing numbers.

BRC is assisting local user groups in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Montana and Michigan respond to travel planning projects. The opportunity for you to lend a hand will present itself in coming days. Please watch your inbox closely.

But for today, I want to give a quick update on two important issues. Take just a couple of minutes and read the updates. It's good news, by the way! Please feel free to forward our emails to friends and family and encourage them to sign up to receive our ACTION ALERTS. Sign up is easy on our website: http://www.sharetrails.org/contact/contact.htm

Thanks again for all of your support,
Brian Hawthorne

YELLOWSTONE UPDATE

According to an AP story in the Billings Gazette printed today, the National Park Service will issue a proposal today allowing for snowmobile use in Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks for three years as the agency and courts work toward a more permanent solution.

This is great news for the Snowmobile community, and BRC members and supporters who have fought for years to defend responsible motorized recreation in our National Parks.

The Park Service will release proposed rules governing snowmobile and snowcoach use in the parks during the three-year grace period, followed by a comment period. According to the AP story, the final rules are expected in late October.

Funny to watch the Bloo Ribbers celebrating some Dubya adminstration rules....

Watch them cry in their domestic beer in 3 months when the Judge overturns them because Dubya and the Blue Ribbers forgot to take into account the affects on the Environment....

LOL I wont do any crying in my beer ,I'll just send in more money to support the org. I know are fighting to keep these places open ,just seeing who is doing the crying right now is enough for me.
:D

I save the crying and celebrating for the things that really matter in my life , my family.
The rest of this stuff is for fun.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect you to shed a tear over the loss of habitat and environment for Deer, Elk, Bison, Wolves, Trout and the likes. As long as you can ride your ATV there, I am sure you are happy.....

Just remember to start wearing the helmet.....

HAHA, I hope MD4ME, keeps wasting money on this lost cause.

IF, and thats a big IF a judge doesnt intervene in the current decision, after the 3 year grace period, motorized use will be severely limited in Yellowstone.

I'd strongly encourage all those wanting to rip through jellystone on a snowmobile to do it sooner than later.

All that money for only a potential 3 year grace period...good job BRC.

Time will tell, alot hinge's on the upcomming election.
There are alot of people that like to ride snowmachine's and ATV's .

Elkgunner ,you have no idea what I would shed a tear for or how or where I ride,or even how much I ride.
Just the fact that I own an ATV and agree more with the BRC then the green group's has you so wrapped up in hate and insult's you can't or won't open your eye's & ear's enough to see or hear anything else except your pre-concived notion about other's.

(Is it just your nature to toss out insults to people about head injuries without knowing one way or the other if a person might have suffered through one?)

"rip through jellystone on a snowmobile "
"As long as you can ride your ATV there, I am sure you are happy....."

What make's those statement's any different then the anti-firearm or anti-hunter's statment they toss around like.

They also try to paint all gun owner's in a bad light, all hunter's as taking great joy from wounding and killing anything that moves.
Are those true statment's ?
Should we ban all hunting and firearm's because of them?

Is it true that the most liberal minded person's tolerance stops where another person view start's ?

Uhhhh, MD, it was you who said you wouldn't be crying in your beer.... You might just scroll up a few of your posts....

Wear the helmet....

What does owning an atv/sled have to do with ones views on whether or not they belong in a National Park????

Hey Michael,
Polite people don't ask other people how many head of cattle they own, how many acres they own/farm, or how many ATVs they own....

Let's just say we own enough to get the work done on the cattle with them. Not sure how using ATVs to work cattle/change water has anything to do with National Parks.

I would never consider wearing my irrigation boots into Yellowstone, why would I want to take an ATV or a snowmobile into a National Park? Neither belong ther.

POLITE PEOPLE????????
I see elkgunner, people of your high standing dont ask those type's of questions but you have no problem making fun of people with a disability ????????

Maybe you should post your business card so we will have a better understanding of what profession our childern & grandchildern should strive for so they can reach that high moral ground where it's Polite to make fun of people but not to ask how many ATVs a person own's.

SSDD

Gunner, please elaborate on the exact numbers regarding loss of habitat in the park.

Buzz, please tell us all how you "rip" through the park on a snowmobile when all riders are currently subject to a guide and a maximum 45 mph speed limit.

Last time I checked, Yellowstone and Grand Teton Parks were not wilderness areas. And last time I checked, there was no pollution problem in the park, just at the west gate due to a) 2-stroke engines warming up and; b) no timed entry system, which is being looked at by the park service this year.

Other than that, I'm not wasting any more time repeating facts that the usual suspects aren't going to listen to.

Hangar, why dont you call a buddy of mine, who is an LEO in West Yellowstone and ask him how many tickets he writes for the "few bad apples" that rip through Yellowstone on their sleds, usually drunk...

Glad they are enforcing the law there, as they well should.

Did you miss the word "guide" in my last post Buzz? Here it is again in case you did.

...The National Park Service yesterday proposed letting up to 720 guided snowmobiles enter Yellowstone National Park each day during the next three winters...
Looks like your LEO buddy is going to be pretty bored this winter. How many of the 69,000+ riders did he hand tickets out to last year or in 2002-03? Also, have you asked him how many speeding and drunk driving tickets he's handed out in the summer? Also, ask him how many folks have been injured or have died from speeding or drunk snowmobiling accidents in the park. Finally, ask him to assess your chances of being injured or killed driving around in the college town of Laramie vs riding a snowmobile in the park. I have an LEO buddy in Idaho Falls that has worked in Island Park I'll ask the same things and provide what he can answer.

FATASSED ATV WELFARE RANCHER! Ride a horse bitch!ATVs pollute the environment according to yer all knowing ass! But that's Ok when Elkcummers lazy ass isn't willing to saddle up the horses and make rounds. The Ol' Bad ATV is fine when he needs it! You are the biggest HYPOCRITE IN THE WORLD! Besides Kerry! #*^@#* you make me sick!

Hangar, my buddies first year as an LEO in West Yellowstone (2002) he really put a halt to the BS going on down there. He's a young guy out to do his job rather than just draw a fat paycheck. Sure makes a difference when you get an LEO thats serious about his job.

Heres part of an email I received from my buddy:

Buzz, This winter and spring have been really busy here. I wrote the most tickets to snowmobilers in the entire region of law enforcement officers. Caught them speeding and going into closed areas.

Hangar if you want his email address to ask him the questions, I'll gladly supply it.

Buzz

I see the pollution caused by one individual and perpetrated by a couple others is festering.
Kind of like a cancer, that if not cut out will make the host nothing but a gross resemblence of it's former self... ;)
