Just doing my civic duties...

A couple days ago while hiking my ass off all over Wyoming for a trophy mule deer I witnessed the typical ATV riding slugs.

A couple dimwits about 30 years old with 2 rifles each strapped to an ATV riding all over the Medicine Bow National Forest "hunting" mule deer.

Just typical crap from the ATV crowd, cant stay on roads despite at least passing a dozen signs stating "OFF ROAD TRAVEL PROHIBITED". I guess the lard ass ATVers must have flunked out of third grade and never learned to read!

I hope they understand the writing on the ticket they are going to be receiving in the near future. I also hope they remember to press hard, as theres several copies that will need their autograph...

I just hope I have to testify against these dumb asses, nothing I'd like more.

I have to say, those two were a couple real brainiacs, ride right past me with plates on their ATV's...

These two are your stereo-typical ATV hunters/riders, the law applies to everyone but them. It wont be long and they'll be banned for hunting all together, and none too soon...good riddance to those lazy bastards.

Buzz, Thanks for getting their plate numbers and reporting them. I hope they get six months in jail. I'm going to be carrying a pencil and paper with me every time I hunt so I can take license plate numbers.

Good work Buzz. Keep us informed on how it transpires, I am curious as well if writing down the plate number is sufficient, or whether addition proof is necessary.

Hopefully this is one for the good guys.

How did your hunt go other than the lazy-ass episode?

mtmiller, the hunting was tough for sure, but loads of fun.

My buddies and I made it even tougher by imposing a 170 B&C limit on ourselves. Never get a big one shooting small ones.

We passed up some bucks in the 150 range and we saw from 10-40 deer a day over several days. Lots of smaller bucks, 3 points, etc. The weather was no help either, deer movement was pretty much limited to a couple hours a day.

I'll be heading back out tomorrow for another 4 days, theres talk of some better weather.

Well Buzz i`m glad to see your back, i was getting worried about ya,i hope your G&F dept. does something about the ATV guys but if it`s like AZ G&F nothing will happen, I reported 2 guy`s in a jeep a few years ago chasing antelope across a huge meadow, they shot and killed a lope while the jeep was moving, my buddy and me got there licence # and even showed the Warden where they were camped, he went and talked to them , came back and said they denied doing it , he said it was our word against theirs, handed us a complaint form to fill out and left! We mailed in the form, gave our phone # and address, Nothing ever happend! I hope your G&F takes a more " active" approach than our`s.

Good question cali..

Thats why I don't post down here in si much anymore.
Always got somebody making stupid statements. doing nothing more than trying to start an argument.

Good Job Buzz!!
I hope they are nailed to the wall.

ATV's have there place. If they are used right.
I know alot of guys who enjoy riding as much as they do hunting, as long as they follow the laws during hunting season I have no problem with them. they have just as much right to be out there as anybody else.
If they were banned from using there atv's they would probqably not hunt anymore. We can't afford to loose their dollars, or their voices.
There are to many other groups against us who are working towards ending hunting and taking away our gun rights.

I've never hunted off an ATV and have been plenty pissed at some "dips" riding down through the middle of a high park that I got up long before daylight to get to have been sitting on for hours . BUT I don't agree with the fact that All ATV users are " fat assed" and break the law. I think that the law breakers are part of the minority that tend to screw up other aspects of hunting and many other things in life . I think that a guy that follows the laws and rules of using an ATV for hunting has every right to do so and should not be thrown into the pile with the "assholes". Ol Bob

quote:
as long as they follow the laws during hunting season I have no problem with them.

I agree and would add the rest of the year as well. I was working yesterday in an area that has been overly abused with more trails that needed or legal. Instances like that only re-enforce my idea that they should be restricted to roadways open to passenger vehichles.

Michaelr, to tell you the truth, I think we (hunters) can do without fat lazy slugs that "hunt" off ATV's.

Being fat isnt an excuse or a badge of honor to ride an iron horse all over the country.

I saw on the way home today from hunting mule deer (parked in the McDonalds parking lot) the perfect example of what kind of "hunters" most atvers are. A group of 3 vehicles, one pulling a gooseneck trailer with 6 (six) decked out atv's, one rig with one in the bed, and another pulling a trailer with 2. Thats 9 (nine) atv's for the group. The older men were all at least 40 pounds over-weight and probably hadnt seen their tools since 8th grade. They had a couple young super-sized kids in their teens with them caring super-sized sacks of McDonalds, who were also probably 30 pounds over-weight...little fatties wearing baggy pants.

They had not one single animal that I saw, but were decked out in orange looking pretty smart at McDonalds.

I dont care if someone wants to be a bucket of lard, but for Christ sake, if you want to hunt...get in shape and make it happen, dont try to compensate for your fat butt by buying a machine to cart you around everywhere.

We dont need more unmotivated, lazy, sluggish, fat toads hunting. I'll pay double or triple my current license fees if they fold because they cant hunt off ATV's.

I dont think, by a long shot, that ATV violations are few and far between, or that its the "minority of riders/hunters" that are messing it up for everyone.

Mark my words, the day of them being banned for hunting all together is drawing closer with each violation and with each hunt that they ruin for someone else....they're making their own bed...and I couldnt give a shit less if they quit hunting because of any future bans.

ATV`s are "perfect" tools for the handicapped hunter, i may have to get one someday. i guess according to some people posting here, the handicapped should just quit hunting.

cj, no poster here has ever objected to handicapped hunters using ATVs. A few have pointed out they should have a legitimate handicap. The only handicap most ATV riders have is laziness.

Good job BUZZ. I can remember when a poster here last year said it wasn't his responsibility to spend his time reporting these things (right IT?).

Good job reporting these violators Buzz. If the ATV crowd gets enough heat, they will definately think twice. I don't know if thinking twice would still add up to much with some of the nitwits out there.

On a different note Buzz, why do I get the feeling that even if an ATVer obeyed all the rules, and used their atv ethically in the pursuit of hunting, that you would still be opposed to it. Gotta learn to share a little bit Buzz. Some folks might not want to share the wildlife with you and your ways. Would be nice to have a little support behind you if it ever comes to this, and believe me Buzz, one day it will.

Paul

BHR, don't you know if BUZZ can't control what everyone does, he doesn't like it.

Most of the ATV riders I met with in the last couple of weeks don't hunt anymore, and don't care to either. They have gone from hunting to nonhunting, and it probably wouldn't take much effort to be pushed to anti-hunting if "hunters" keep pushing for the elimination of their "new" sport of ATV riding.

All hunters that break the laws while hunting are poaching (ATV riders included), and need to be addressed as such. Hunters/ATV riders that follow the laws are not poaching, and need to be not addressed as such. Not all ATV riders are breaking the laws, and I'd wager there are just as many "hunters" that are breaking other laws.
