Falconry in the liberal bastion of San Fran

Falconry abatement is growing in demand. It's highly effective, but also extremely laborious to get to the point you can do it. I'm a bit surprised he's using a Harris' to chase them, Peregrine's are the go to for birds that size and larger.

I thought that too, but wondered if Peregrines would be too effective at "catching" their prey. Plus they mention the Harris being good for loud busy locations. Either way, I think it's pretty darn cool. Now if we could get ______ (giant bird of prey) trained on park geese.

San Fransisco is certainly something other than liberal, I'd argue but that's a story for another thread. Falconry is rad. There was a club in Stillwater, MN, where I grew up and every so often I would see a couple of the guys at a gas station down town and shoot the shit for a few minutes. Other times, I'd see them walking fields with their birds. I regret that I never called in late to work to pull over and watch them work for a while.

Peregrines are good for large area abatement on orchards and such. Places where they can stretch their wings putting the fear into birds over a wide area. Harris hawk is preferred for this sort of work - keeping birds out of a resort area or train station, etc.

If I remember right Mike Rowe did a Dirty Jobs episode on using falcons to chase off seagulls at a San Francisco landfill years ago, it was cool.

Insert gyrfalcon. I was talking with a guy who uses his on snow geese. That's pretty insane.
