Elk hunt with pack goats 2022

Good for you.

Wouldn't be any goat packing around here today. They would probably fight you to stay in the trailer. -20 and 1/2" hoary frost stayed on everything till sunset. I hunted birds (deer is done) and it was brutal. Still it was very pretty out with the frost and about 7" powder snow. Freezer burned my trigger finger ... again. I saw lots of rigs on the highway towing their stupid SxS toys and headed home. I think the chubby NR dudes have had enough of this shit. Monday it's supposed to almost reach freezing ... oh boy! ... then temps drop back in the toilet again. This has been a crazy hunting season.

How do the goats handle the cold?

Lots of meat! Brought out 175lbs of boned out elk, mostly on 3 goats, the one only had 16lbs on it, the rest each took 50lbs. And no I did not get dinged by the scope, just blood from the elk on my nose….

How do the goats handle the cold?

Fine, there an animal… animals will survive, just need food, water, and shelter. I put goat coats on them when it’s below 32 degrees. There feed is what keeps them warm.
