Elk are tough and can withstand extremely low temps.
Elk like the cold.
If it gets below zero and they’re not pressured they’ll seek out some sun on south slope. But in general elk like the cold and will seek out snow to lay in and eat so they don’t have to go to water as often.Not to highjack the thread but.......define cold. Are we talking 30's-40's or are we talking zeros and teens or lower? I always hear about elk and deer staying on north-facing slopes and staying in the shadows of trees, etc while bedded....they get up and move to shady spots if the sun shines on them. At what temperature point do they start liking the idea of basking in the sun on south-facing slopes?
