Two weeks ago I noticed a pair of eagles carrying branches up into the rim rocks. Sure enough they have an active nest 547 yards from the house. This picture was taken from that distance off our deck but you can see her head sticking up. They've never nested this close to the house before. Looks like the chickens better stay close to home this year.

Pretty cool. Last year visiting my wife's family in the foothills east of San Diego, her cousin was showing me an eagle nest on a cliff face similar to that one. One of the pictures I took with the 300mm lens showed some kind of cord or rope hanging from the structure of the nest so I blew it up on the computer to have a look. It turned out to be a dog leash, no question about it. I'll bet somebody is still trying to figure out who stole their Shihtzu.

Cool!
We had 2 cameras on nest areas in the "Crags" above our Park Maint. shop for Condors.
There were 3 eagle nests that I knew of around the lake.
Last year I was there we had a Golden & a Condor nest going.

I have 2 eagle nests spotted within 10 miles of me here in NM.1 Golden & 1 Bald.
The Ravens are their biggest problem around here besides the idiots that still think hawks & eagles fly off with little kids.....or don't keep their chickens secure.
