When my good friend, Josh Mills saw the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian to the fishing communities of Abaco and Grand Bahama, he knew he had to help. As is all to often the case, the best help can come from the smallest, but inspired gesture. Josh sat down at his fly tying table, tied up a dozen steelhead flies and auctioned them off on his Instagram account @millsfly. Like steelhead in a run, the idea took off. #DozensforDorian was born.
Fly tiers from across the county are auctioning off hand tied flies and donating the proceeds to the Yellow Dog Community and Conservation Foundation. All funds raised through the YDCCF Hurricane Relief Fund will be distributed directly to those that need help. YDCCF plans to deliver funds on both Grand Bahama and Abaco: placing funds directly into the hands of those that need it most
So far over $13,000 has been raised, a dozen flies at a time. But more help is needed, and there is more fishing to be had. Use you fishing habit to help other fishing communities in need at https://www.ydccf.org/dozenfordorian
The MeatEater crew has even got on board, auctioning off a dozen flies tied by Rinella, Janis, Brody Henderson, Sam Lungren and Miles Nolte.
