We went out bear hunting on Friday and didn't find any bears. However, we did get a rig early in the afternoon so I put three dogs and a pup down to go strike. They went right to trailing and moved the track up the canyon.
About four miles into the run, we found their tracks on top of a lion track. Another mile or so up the canyon I was able to pull Ryan and Kody, his ten month old pup, but wasn't able to get my hands on the two redbones (Ike and Choco).
Well, we spent all day yesterday and this morning until just an hour ago walking into them. They had trailed up off the river into a north facing canyon at over 9,000 feet elevation and either treed up until they gave out, or just gave out. Anway, I guess we should have gone in after them and looked at the sign but my butt was draggin. Instead, we shot the .44 mag two or three times and built a fire and waited on them. (It had rained on us all morning). In an hour or so they came to the mouth of that canyon and the river bottom where they found us waiting.
Now, I'll bet those two redbone hounds thought we were a couple lazy son-of-a-guns! Anyway, I gave them both a snack that we'd carried in and a big hug...bear season would have been tough without those to red dogs.
Well, I'm gonna go sit on my tail in the easy chair for hoping to rest up for work tomorrow. Yall keep'em treed!
