Wife, dog and I, were enjoying a nice walk in the 40 degree weather this afternoon…..until we weren’t. Living in a rural area, the dog usually just has his shock collar on during our walks. Today was an ordinary walk and I never would have thought a skunk would be out today. Dog was in front about 20 yards, when he ran over to the snowbank in an excited state (this is normal). As soon as I saw what was in the snow, it was too late. He bit the lethargic skunk and began violently shaking it in his mouth like his toy. I quickly reached in my pocket to shock him and he retreated his attack, but it was too late. The skunk waddled off in the snow, not seeming to be injured severely.
The dog is now covered in baking soda/vinegar/dawn dish soap mix and regretting his life decisions.
Hopefully this is the only incident with skunks this year!
