Do elk use the same rub areas yearly?

A couple of weeks ago I woke up and saw a freshly killed deer in the pasture about 100 yards above my house. A few days earlier, my neighbor had called me to say that she had just seen a lion near the top of the hill above our houses.

There was still snow over the pasture and most of the hill, so I walked up there to see what had killed the deer. The only tracks that I could find around the deer were coyote, but another 150 yards above the deer and out of sight from my house was a cedar tree that had been demolished by an elk last fall I often see elk in the summer and early fall feeding across that hill, but that was the first rub that I've seen.

A lot of times hunting I'll find fresh and old elk rubs in the same area. Now I have another reason to keep a close eye on my hill.;)
