DIY Fireplace

Thank you all for the positive feedback.

noharleyyet, It's funny you ask that. I didn't sooner buy the stuff at Lowes before I was bleeding all over the parking lot trying to load it in my truck. Even just cutting it was dangerous. I used leather gloves and tin snips, but having something like welding gloves to protect my forearms would've prevented a fair amount of blood loss and vulgar language.

:D...I have hung miles of that stuff thru and after college. My company still uses it on stucco applications.

...still have the scars.;)

Both the Moose and stone work are something to be proud of. Great job.

I hate lath. I'm in the tile biz so when I did the cultured stone on my house I hung durock and rolled on an exterior waterproof membrane and hung the rock with a heavy duty non-sag exterior thinset. This stuff would grab on to a piece of rock like what you used and never let go.

Here's a pic. You did a great job. That's a ton of work. Awesome moose as well. Im right in the middle of setting tile on the inside right now, but when I do the fireplace I'll use the durock method. That's how much I hate metal lath!!!!

Very Nice! I want to do the same thing around the foundation of my house. It is nearly 100 years old, with cement block, but I want to cover it with rock just like you did with your fireplace, but with grout suitable for outdoors

Fantastic job! My fireplace has been sitting with the thincoat of cement on the lath for over a year. You want to come hang my rock so I can get my lion hung on the fireplace? :)
