Looks like I'm relocating to Dillon, MT in June. I'll be joining the Soil Survey office as the Ecological Site Inventory Specialist. I'll be collecting and analyzing vegetation data as well as help writing the Ecological Site Descriptions along the Rocky Mtn Front from Canada to Central Wyoming.

Looks like my hunting season just took a major swing into left field. Maybe my 900-20 tag won't be as valuable as I had hoped.

If the local Dillon crew reads this and knows of a rental (I don't need much but have a lot of stuff) feel free to shoot me a PM.

I'm grew up about 25 miles North of there. If you have any questions or anything feel free to shoot me a PM. Your hunting should still be good :)

I've only been in the area a couple of times, but I would suggest a trip to Sparky's Garage. I've eaten there a couple of times and was very impressed .............. now I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Congrats on the new job and relocation! I really like that part of the world. If you have any work related questions, let me know. At least the handbook, for the most part, is out and official. 'Twould be fun doing that kind of work in that kind of country.

Yes. Sparky's Garage is where it's at. Their catfish of all things, is really good.

I'm jealous of ya. You got the Beaverhead right there. And you are within striking distance of the Big Hole, The Jefferson, Red Rocks......beautiful country.

Thanks for the tips guys. I've not spent much time in Dillon and I may rank among the worst fly fisherman to have walked this planet...trees and trout are equally at danger. It will take a while to get used to high pressure fishing.

It sounds like I'll be working and camping in the mountains enough for work that hunting will either be second nature or seem like work. My fat butt better start getting in shape.

Lewistown and Dillon 1 and 1a on my list of towns I'd want to live in MT, you're lucky to get to experience both.

As long as you aren't hung up on inches, that area's got some of the best elk hunting in the state, and with a little ingenuity some awesome whitetail hunting.

Terrible hunting in that area. You will have to drive a long ways to find any elk.

Sparky's or papa-t's have great food. Word is a brewery is about to open too.

I seem to luck out. Lewistown has treated me pretty well in the last 6 years. It is a lonely place for a single guy that isn't a cowboy. I'll definitely miss it but the new scenery will be just as appreciated. Although you never really know what will happen, I think I'll come back to Lewistown later in my career. That is unless Yellowstone explodes and Montana is wiped off the face of the earth ;)

Lots of great water around Dillon for the novice angler. The Ruby up above the reservoir is tailor made for catching a ton of trout & grayling while figuring out the best way to tangle your line in wind knots. :)

I'd live in Dillon in a heartbeat. Great town, good folks & abundant public land.

If I were moving to Montana tomorrow, Dillon would be my number one choice. You have some great country around you, and a wide variety of game, and some good fishing opportunities. I am jealous. :p
