Deer, elk, or none of the above?

Question for you all. My buddy is coming up for a one day hunt this weekend, and I need advice as to what to go after. I know some state land that is productive during shoulder season for elk, but it is flat, familiar farmland...not the most fun to hunt. I also know a WRA that is open for whitey does until Jan 15th. It is a willow choked hellhole though, and requires sitting a blimd for hours at a time. I've also though about taking a long hike/snowshoe out to a mountain lake to call for wolves and look for a few rabbits or grouse. The latter sounds more fun, but the former options sound more productive. What would you rather do?

I did that last sunday dirtclod and it haunts me terribly! As you see my empty treestand in the background last sunday afternoon. No beer or bills win will ever taste that good. Lol

Yea the plan was my good buddy and his son come to my house with their hunting gear watch the early games, eat some brisket, and have a couple beers. Then I would head to that stand, my buddy to the finger stand, and his son to the blind. Well I got schooling my buddies son in pool and best out of 3 ended up being best out 5, then 7, then 9 and more beers.... it was a fun day tho.

The blind sitting was a bust, as my buddy is hunting in scrounged gear and got a bit too cold out there. We did 8.5 miles today howling for wolves and soaking in the lack of people. Never got a response but we had a blast. Can't wait to do it again.
