Deer Down, Call me Mr. Average

With the weather coming, it looks like it is about time to put the rod down and starting getting some coyotes.

Also helping to fill some tags.

JLS I can sure tell you where he isn't. Darn few deer on the forest service land in the Highwoods. The majority are down lower on the private. Logging Creek and Pilgrim Creek in the Little Belts is a zoo full of orange clad animals during hunting season, as is Belt Park. Have you seen the success rate for the Front this year? Really dismal. So if you know of some really good places other than those, I'm all ears and feel free to PM me. :)

Well Hmmm, I just finished cleaning up my bucks skulls getting ready to put him in my dermestid beetles to have them clean him up. Now that I got his hide off him and I've actually had a chance to really look at him up close, he's better than I thought. The crowns on his bases are pretty significant. I will have to measure them and see what they are, but it's a pretty fair diameter. Between that and his tooth wear I'm thinking he's probably a little older than I thought. To be honest I never really got a chance to look him over close until this afternoon. Last night I was trying to beat daylight and get a couple photos. Then it got dark and I had to get him quartered and me off that mountain. When we went back with the packs it was all business and I never really got to look pay much attention to the antlers. He's kind'a growing on me, and he's definitely better than I originally thought.

Big Sky, do you have your dermestid beetles as a business or just for yourself? I've thought about getting some, but not sure if it's worth it just for personal use and a couple friends/family.

fishing4sanity, it started out for just me and a few friends but turned into a business. I don't do any antlered game for non-local's though. Its just too much hassle to ship deer, elk, or anything else with antlers. Love doing the bears, cats, coyotes, various other predators, mt. goats, and antelope though. Here is a link to my website: http://www.bestskullcleaning.com/

Randy if you don't want that link here feel free to remove it. I'm just trying to answer his question. Not looking to advertise and promote as I stay pretty busy with word of mouth as it is.

Interesting side note. The last time I killed a deer was two years ago. The buck fell less than 200 yards from where this year's buck went down. Here's the buck from two year's ago. Everything was kind of deja vu except the size of the antlers.

Had blizzard blowing in. By the time I got him field dressed and ready to pack out there was a raging blizzard. Had to make two trips. Had a heckuva time finding him on the return trip as he was under about 5" to 6" of snow, it was nearly whiteout conditions, at night. This all happened within a couple hours, it was crazy!
