Don't know if I buy all these guys are saying but it is interesting reading on a cold day. CRP has been good for wildlife.

Researchers find another side-effect in land program

BY The Associated Press - 2/02/04

BOZEMAN (AP) — The federal Conservation Reserve program has been criticized over the years for some of its unintended side effects, but two researchers at Montana State University say they've discovered it also has a more positive spinoff.

CRP helps stave off urban sprawl — the conversion of farmland to subdivisions — say Jerry Johnson, associate professor of political science, and Bruce Maxwell, associate professor in land resources and environmental science.

Nemont, you just reminded me of an article I read a week or two ago, I think it was in the American Hunter magazine...it was about the deer hunting in eastern Colorado and basically said that before CRP deer hunting there was a waste of time, but since CRP, eastern Colorado has become THE place to go for big bucks, both whitetail and mule deer. So that is one program I don't mind my taxes going towards, and I hope it will last but seriously have my doubts, with the way Bush throws our money away. I just don't see how the government can afford to continue paying the farmers off year after year after year.
