So, in going with Blackbeards thread of an ultra light rifle i got to looking around for another one.
Unfortunately i had sold my Forbes 24B in 280 Rem.
In my search i came accross the being newly released Weatherby Mark V Hunter.
At 6.1lbs in standard calibers, it's not the lightest, but nowhere near the heaviest either. And it has some of the features i was looking for.
I put money down and am on the waiting list for one in 280AI.
The shop did receive one in 6.5 Creedmoor (i know, shocker, right??!!). So i at least got to hold one, inspect it, work the bolt & dry fire it.
First impressions.
This is one of the most Plain Jane looking Mark V's i've ever seen. There is nothing in appearance that jumps out & makes you say " i like that!".
Stock is a lightish gray composite. Fit is good on me. Seemed decently stiff. Nice butt pad. That's all i can comment about it.
Action.
Bolt is black, spiral fluted with decently sized bolt knob. Bolt throw was surprisingly a little stiff. Will have to be addressed if mine is the same.
Safety is attached to the bolt. Something different for me.
The 6 lug bolt & short throw was nice.
Trigger.
The Trigger Tech trigger was a thing of beauty!
Light, crisp with zero creep.
The trigger shoe is really wide & comfortable.
Barrel.
24" Sporter contour with threaded muzzle. Cerakoted?
Kinda a mix of gray and burnt bronze color. Different.
The thread protector matches up with the barrel perfectly!
I couldn't distinguish where the line was where they met.
While not as attractive as the other Mark V's, not a bad rifle, overall!
Yes the Mark V Backcountry they had was nicer. But at $600 more than the &1,349 Hunter, it should be.
Now for mine to come in and get some rounds downrange!
