I just looked up my points last night after reading this thread. I sure don’t want to end up in no mans land. I have one more year and I’m going to have to cash them in.
Good luck with that. That’s the problem with the “creep.” You think your almost there and next year it takes 1-3 points more than it did this year for the same tag. I’ve been doing it for 10 years. LOL.
I personally think that would make it worse. There would people that would never exhaust their point total thereby always adding to the amount of people applying for the limited units and never starting from scratch again. The Colorado point system is a mess. I hope they find a way to fix it someday. I’m not sure the increase in point cost via buying a qualifying license is going to be the solution.I'm not too familiar with CO, but i think they should let you spend your points, one by one, not "cash them in”
The other option is to go to the ID route but people would riot in the streets if their 20+ years of points became worthless overnight.

Just 10 years? Just a rookie starting out then...
States should allow pointholders to devise, gift, or transfer their points to a close family relative - much like some airline programs allow the transfer in a last will or trust at death or incapacity. Expiration of accumulated points at death is unacceptable - nothing but charitable donations to the State over time. Vegas craps table would have been a better “investment “.
Point Creep: What is it? Can you overcome it? and much more
Continue to build points and hope for a dream that might not ever happen... or hunt more?www.gohunt.com
Here is the article I’m referring to
Just out of curiosity why not just draw a different unit/ weapon next season? That's a GREAT article! Thanx for posting.
This is exactly why I have 27 NR Elk points in CO and still can't draw the tag I want. And in all honestly, it'll probably be another 10 years before I have a real chance to draw it.

I don't know...multiple reasons. Kinda had my heart set on GMU 201; stubbornness; and I've been going on many other hunts throughout the years. Since I started this chase I've hunted CO a few times, NM a couple times, WY a couple times, Alaska, Ontario and Alberta, Canada, and Iowa this December. It's not like I'm sitting on the sidelines for 30 years. I think I mentioned earlier...when I started this chase it only took 7 points for a NR to draw this tag. BUT, they're changed the drawings formula a few times since I started and each time it adds years to be able to draw. And then it's quite a step down in hunt quality if I blow 27 points on an 15-18 point tag (or at least mentally it is). I'm so close now (points wise) that it's hard to think about bailing out.
