Looking at muzzleloader deer hunt in Colorado only problem ,I can only hunt 4 days as I have other commitments that time of year. Hope 4 days is enough.
I always buy the tag because I know darn well if I don't have the tag I'll see them. Maybe just a cow tag? Just like why I buy the archery bear tag during archery elk season....more of a just in case tag
Depending upon the area you intend on hunting it may take 4 days to figure out access, where the pockets of deer are, etc. A majority of high alpine country in Colo has relatively sparse deer populations, some low or mid elevation areas don't have many deer until snow pushes them down into the country in November/December. Other areas may be full of deer during muzzy season....so things can change dramatically from one area to another in Colo. With that said 4 days may not be much time in one area while it may be plenty in another.
One way to up your odds of success would be to scout the area prior to your hunt. That way you have a head start on when, where, how, etc! Another thing to keep in mind is around the time muzzy season opens in Colo is when bucks tend to start shedding their velvet. Where they are routinely found every day when in velvet may change dramatically after their velvet is gone. This often happens like clockwork in late Sept in Colo and the bucks tend to go into seclusion until the rut/ or snow drives them to winter ranges.
