Coastal AK boat rental

Obviously Randy has done this successfully, but I wanted to ask around to see who you guys knew in the Ketchikan, Petersburg, or Wrangell areas that offer up reliable boat rental services for those of us who wanted to do a drop-off black bear hunt in AK. Been floating this idea for years with my dad and brothers, but don't know who we should use once we got up there. (This could have been discussed at length earlier. Sorry if that is the case.)

I rented mine from Gary at Hollis Bay Cabins. Great guy and good boats. They will rent them if you don't plan to take them too far. They are pretty concerned about liability and probably with some bad experiences that provide good reason for their concern.

Thanks, Randy. What if you are a dry-lander from Montana who needs to navigate a little open water to get to the hunting? Do those guys offer a tow and drop-off?

They did do that, until recently. Now, the boat rental guys cannot do that, as they will be accused of outfitting. A joke, but that is the pressure being put on them. Or at least that is how the local enforcement in Pburg and POW are interpreting it.

Ahh.... yes. I know you alluded to that in the show, but I guess I was hoping there was a way around it. Hmmm... this complicates things a little bit, huh?

I will 2nd Gary in Hollis we have used him I think 4 times soon to be a 5th and he is great to work with. Has great boats and all that. Just be careful and watch the weather it can blow in quick up there and watch the rocks they are bad also with the huge tide changes. We had a lot of trouble finding ppl to rent boats from so if your going this spring your probally outta luck alread for sure I'm guessing.
