great state of Idaho....
Went to Sportsmans warehouse last night and got my daughter some shells for her 20ga. I bought her this week, and she needed some camo for our upcoming Turkey hunt in CA., only got her the essentials, face mask, long sleeve shirt, pants, and a waterproof top, it was $120.... crazy imo. there was maybe $25 worth of material and it was off brand stuff... and it won't fit her probably this fall.... I may go broke this year buying her camo for big game hunting lol,
Matt

Yes the investment now will pay dividends when you can call her to help come drag out an elk.

For those buying for kids, whom outgrow stuff fast, look a season ahead for closeouts. I've found some screamer deals this way. FWIW...

I Pretty much stick to the cheap stuff knowing it will be outgrown in a season. Just have to balance everything to make sure they're somewhat comfortable and enjoying there time in the woods.

Kind of a tough deal. As the cheap stuff sometimes leaves them cold/wet. And the expensive stuff is ...... expensive.

For big game, not sure they need camo, just comfort.

Watch Ebay for Kids. I have bought my son some nice stuff for pennies on the dollar. As he grows out of them if he hasn't destroyed if I sell it on Ebay and get a lot of my money back.

I guess you could just buy $25 worth of material and sew them up yourself? Porobably not.

Check clearances at places like Icebreakers and First Lite. Usually some good prices on women's sizes if you don't care about pattern.

there is a reason the only camo i own is for coyote hunting, if i hunted turkeys I would wear it then too. last year i had the same few deer walk within 15 yards of me a few times while I was sitting at the base of a tree wearing brown carhartt bibs, coat & orange vest, i don't think camo would have brought them any closer

family friend has a store that sells carhartt as well as a few other working brands of clothing, they have never told me the exact mark-up but it is extensive and often set by the manufacturer that we recommend XX price you may sell it as low as XY but if you sell it lower we will pull out of your store

I spent my first 5 years hunting wearing a hand-me-down coverall that my sister used before me, followed by the next few years wearing a hand-me-down coverall my dad used when he first got into hunting. Base layers were usually turtle necks and long-underwear from Kohl's/Walmart. I never knew what the good stuff was so I was plenty satisfied with what I had. Kids don't need the best-fitting/top gear but if you're buying, don't be afraid to by a couple sizes up so you can use the gear for years to come. Even if they're drowning in it the first year, they'll be happy enough to be out in God's great country with their family!

Agreed! Odds are my kids will be wearing better stuff than I will as them staying comfortable is more important than me being so. Fortunately hunting where/how we do it's not terribly hard to outfit a kid well.

Ive been fortunate to be able to buy better stuff and pass it down to the next kid. Ebay has treated me well but camofire not as much until my oldest has been able to get into small men's sizes. I like cabelas kids stuff. Its treated us well. Its a wonder we dont get hammered worse on the price. Also just my opinion but if they don't have something similar in color or look as you, they will think its no good. Logic and reason is not an issue when they want the same look as their dad has.

Oh yea the over sized clothing is how I grew up, most stuff I swam in, even back 20 years ago camo price's weren't that "cheap", but I believe my daughter has the bug so I am not to worried that her being uncomfortable is a big deal, both my kids 6 and 9 were out in single digit temps goose hunting this year and seemed to do really well. I think the Turkey hunting in CA will be rather relaxed, it's been in the 70's. Perfect to introduce my daughter into hunting weather..... thanks for all the reply's,
Matt

Right now our walmarts here locally have clearanced all of the camo and hunting stuff they have. You can get pants and tshirts for about $5 a piece and jackets and hoodies for about $12. They have sizes from youth too.
